One track

I have often heard the term, 'one track mind'. I've also heard it said that men can't multi-task (but women can). I really think there is some truth in this and I think I'm fairly single-tracked most of the time. If something is off the topic of my current thought train then it takes me a little while to adjust. I pretty sure it creates stress for me to have several things to think about at one time and I then deal with all of these things badly.

This might be linked to my earlier observation about people-engineering, because there are always many things to keep in mind whilst dealing with a person. Perhaps I'm destined to be forever bad at that kind of thing, a programmer forever!

It's a double edged sword: on the one hand I'm better at solving discreet, linea problems. On the other hand I'm bad at dealing with multi-dimensional problems. Note this is nothing to do with 'outside the box' thinking because if you go in a straight line long enough you'll get to the edge of any box, I suppose it's more of a boot-strap problem. I sort of imagine the multi-taskers as having a brownian motion of thoughts. There is no start or end to the mess. With a line, you have to have a start and end.

Actually, I think I'm not as linea as some people I know. But I am still plenty above average.
